DA Staff

The Eighth Judicial District Attorney’s Office was able to secure convictions against Desiree Lensegrav in the 2019 murder of Joseph Morgas. Her husband and co-conspirator, Aram Montoya, pled guilty to first-degree murder last year. Lensegrav’s charges included murder in the first degree, kidnapping and evidence tampering.

The jury took approximately 90 minutes to deliver a unanimous verdict on five counts against Lensegrav April 1. The date of her sentencing has not yet been set by the Court.

“The jury reached a guilty verdict, which will help further ensure the safety of our community. This tragic event has irreparably impacted many lives,” District Attorney Marcus Montoya said. “I am grateful for the hard work of our prosecutors – Cosme Ripol and Emily Dewhurst – alongside the efforts of our tireless staff’s contributions towards this conviction. Judge Chavez and the staff of the Eighth Judicial District Court once again conducted a streamlined and efficient fair trial. Our hardworking and professional law enforcement partners of the Sheriff’s office and New Mexico State Police secured the necessary evidence and testimony to present a legitimate case, of the highest magnitude, to the jury.”
