Aram Montoya has accepted a plea agreement in the 2019 murder of Joseph Morgas, who was reported missing September 24, 2019. The defendant will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The defendant admitted to his role in Morgas’ murder after he was arrested following a violent incident in which he strangled and stabbed his partner, Desiree Lensegrav. He pled guilty to charges associated with that case. Defendant Lensegrav is also being charged in the murder of Joseph Morgas.
“I am satisfied with the way this case concluded. Mr. Morgas’ murder is unforgivable. The defendant ultimately took responsibility for his actions, voluntarily accepting the maximum sentence the justice system allows,” Eighth Judicial District Attorney Marcus Montoya said. “With this plea, the Morgas family has been able to take one step further in the healing process. I would like to thank our law enforcement allies, the Court, Ninth Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb and my staff for their efforts during the resolution of this case.”
Defendant Lensegrav’s trial is scheduled for March 28.
“We have more work ahead of us, and we will pursue the prosecution of Defendant Lensegrav to the fullest extent,” DA Montoya said.
