Rafael Orozco has been sentenced to another 8 years in prison after pleading “no contest” to battery upon a peace officer – a fourth-degree felony – on Monday (February 14).
Orozco was initially sentenced to a sentence of 14 years after pleading guilty to aggravated battery, battery on a health care worker and aggravated battery on a peace officer in September 2020.
The Defendant also admitted to three prior felonies in the Eighth Judicial District, which ultimately resulted in a 22-year sentence with the Department of Corrections. He is also facing charges in Rio Arriba County; prosecutor Cosme Ripol said he hopes the First Judicial District uses this most recent conviction to protect the people of Northern New Mexico.
Defendant Orozco has proven to be a habitual violent offender in this and other New Mexico communities. District Attorney Marcus Montoya is proud of his hardworking staff, his committed prosecutors, and the tireless law enforcement efforts in securing 22 years of prison time toward serving the New Mexico citizens.
