Wanted Felon Arrested by Taos County Sheriff’s Office

DA Staff

The district attorney’s office applauds the swift and effective action taken by the Taos County Sheriff’s Office and that of Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe’s Response Team in taking Rafael Orozco into custody without incident. With the opportunity to rehabilitate himself now squandered, the District Attorney’s Office will be filing a Motion to Revoke Probation and will be seeking the full fourteen (14) years of prison time as outlined in the plea agreement.

I have spoken with 1st Judicial District Attorney Marco Serna, and he will be reviewing very thoroughly any potential charges that may arise out of the 1st Judicial District. It is inappropriate to comment on the strength of any charge, particularly on any charges potentially being prosecuted by another agency.

Additionally, the District Attorney’s office appreciates the diligent, timely, and cooperative efforts between my office and the Adult Probation and Parole Office in their preparation and filing of the probation violation report, securing the arrest & hold orders, getting the arrest warrant issued, and motion to revoke probation, necessary to assure efficiency during this process. The New Mexico State Police, the Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and the Taos County Sheriff’s Office have been relentlessly monitoring and tracking this defendant and today the aligned and cooperative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies have come together to make this community a safer place.
