

EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S LEADERS IN JUSTICE
The Junior District Attorney Program offers high school students a unique opportunity to explore the criminal justice system from the inside. Through hands-on experiences and direct engagement with legal professionals, students gain valuable skills, build confidence, and discover potential career paths in law and public service.

Each week, students explore the full scope of the District Attorney’s office—from case initiation to courtroom proceedings. The program culminates in a student-led mock trial.
WHAT STUDENTS EXPERIENCE
Courtroom Observations – Witnessed a live verdict and learned courtroom etiquette
Facility Tours – Visited the detention center, 911 dispatch, and the Sheriff’s Department
Professional Engagements – Met with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and a State Representative
Guest Speakers – Heard from the Medical Examiner’s Office, Taos Police, and School Safety experts
Upcoming Presentations – Defense attorney, Taos News justice reporter, and more
