DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly experienced prosecutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to handle a full caseload, including complex, high-level, and high-profile matters. This position requires expertise in one or more areas of criminal prosecution, the ability to lead special prosecutions as assigned by the District Attorney, and a commitment to mentoring and supervising attorneys and/or staff
Work Performed:
Incumbent may prosecute all cases, including high-level or high-profile cases. Incumbent possesses expertise in one or more areas of criminal prosecution; leads special prosecutions assigned by the District Attorney; supervises or mentors other attorneys and/or staff.
Incumbent may alternatively be a division/bureau head in a main or satellite office who handles cases as well as substantial administrative duties and tasks. Can act on behalf of the District Attorney as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires basic knowledge and skills in the areas of criminal prosecution, rules of evidence and rules of criminal procedure, public relations, organization, basic computer skills, ability to draft legal documents, ability to work effectively with other criminal justice agencies, ability to communicate effectively, and ability to research and analyze information and situations. This position works independently and makes decisions within guidelines, which include decisions to dismiss, proceed to trial, or negotiate plea agreements. Seeks guidance from assigned supervisor and/or higher-level attorneys.
Requirements:
Juris Doctorate and a current license to practice law in New Mexico. A minimum of (6) years of relevant prosecution experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed attorney to practice law in New Mexico, plus six (6) or more years of relevant prosecution experience, including three (3) or more years of administrative/management experience.
