DA Montoya Attends National Conference in Washington, D.C., Urges Support for Prosecutors and Victims
Washington, D.C. — Last week, New Mexico District Attorneys Association President Marcus J. Montoya attended the 2026 National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) Annual Conference.
The NDAA’s annual advocacy conference brings prosecutors from across the country to Capitol Hill to meet directly with their congressional delegations and address issues of critical importance to public safety and justice in their communities.
During the conference, attendees highlighted top national priorities for District Attorneys, including strengthening recruitment and retention of local prosecutors, securing sustainable funding for crime victims, advancing efforts to combat child exploitation, addressing the rise in organized retail crime, and confronting the ongoing opioid crisis.
District Attorney Marcus Montoya met with New Mexico’s congressional leaders to advocate for stronger tools to support recruitment and retention, protect victims, combat child exploitation and retail crime, and better respond to the opioid epidemic.
Keynote speakers included U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, a former prosecutor, and former New Jersey Governor and U.S. Attorney Chris Christie. Both emphasized the essential role of the rule of law in safeguarding democratic principles.
“Local prosecutors play a vital role in keeping our communities safe — and their voices matter on Capitol Hill. When those on the front lines speak up, policymakers listen. Their advocacy helps ensure safer, stronger communities nationwide. I want to thank New Mexico’s federal delegation and their staff for always being available to help,” said District Attorney Marcus Montoya.
District Attorney Montoya serves as President of the New Mexico District Attorneys Association, is a member of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Organized Crime Prevention Commission, and is an active member of the National District Attorneys Association, where he serves on both the Recruitment & Retention Committee and the Justice Committee.
